ואמר אליהו דמתושב מתותבי גלעד לאחאב קים הוא יי אלהא דישראל דמשמשנא קדמוהי אם יהא שניא האלין טלא ומטרא אלהין כד אימר:
aymr kd alhyn wmTra Tla halyn shnya yha am qdmwhy dmshmshna dyshral alha yy hwa qym lakhab gled mthwthby dmthwshb alyhw wamr
Elijah the Tishbite, who was one of the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As Yahweh, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.”

והוה פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי עמיה למימר:
lmymr emyh yy qdm mn nbwah pthgm whwh
Then Yahweh’s word came to him, saying,

אזיל מכא ותתפני לך לקדומא ותטמר בנחלא דכרית די על אפי ירדנא:
yrdna apy el dy dkryth bnkhla wthTmr lqdwma lk wththpny mka azyl
“Go away from here, turn eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.

ויהי מנחלא תשתי וית עורביא פקדית לסוברותך תמן:
thmn lswbrwthk pqdyth ewrbya wyth thshthy mnkhla wyhy
You shall drink from the brook. I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”

ואזל ועבד כפתגמא דיי ואזל ויתיב בנחלא דכרית די על אפי ירדנא:
yrdna apy el dy dkryth bnkhla wythyb wazl dyy kpthgma webd wazl
So he went and did according to Yahweh’s word, for he went and lived by the brook Cherith that is before the Jordan.

ועורביא מיתן ליה לחמא ובסרא בצפרא ולחמא ובסרא ברמשא ומן נחלא שתי:
shthy nkhla wmn brmsha wbsra wlkhma btspra wbsra lkhma lyh mythn wewrbya
The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.

והוה מסוף יומין ויבש נחלא ארי לא הוה מטרא בארעא:
barea mTra hwh la ary nkhla wybsh ywmyn mswp whwh
After a while, the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.

והוה פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי עמיה למימר:
lmymr emyh yy qdm mn nbwah pthgm whwh
Yahweh’s word came to him, saying,

קום אזיל לצרפת די לצידונאי ותתב תמן הא פקדית תמן אתתא ארמלתא לסוברותך:
lswbrwthk armltha aththa thmn pqdyth ha thmn wththb ltsydwnay dy ltsrpth azyl qwm
“Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain you.”

וקם ואזל לצרפת ואתא לתרע קרתא והא תמן אתתא ארמלתא מגבבא אעין וקרא לה ואמר סבי כען לי זעיר מיא במנא ואשתי:
washthy bmna mya zeyr ly ken sby wamr lh wqra aeyn mgbba armltha aththa thmn wha qrtha lthre watha ltsrpth wazl wqm
So he arose and went to Zarephath; and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and said, “Please get me a little water in a jar, that I may drink.”

ואזלת למיסב וקרא לה ואמר סבי כען לי פתא דלחמא בידיך:
bydyk dlkhma ptha ly ken sby wamr lh wqra lmysb wazlth
As she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”

ואמרת קים הוא יי אלהך אם אית לי מדעם אלהין מלי פיסת ידא קמחא במנא וזעיר משחא בצלוחיתא והא אנא מגבבא תרין אעין ואיהך ואעבדיניה לי ולברי וניכליניה ונמות:
wnmwth wnyklynyh wlbry ly waebdynyh wayhk aeyn thryn mgbba ana wha btslwkhytha mshkha wzeyr bmna qmkha yda pysth mly alhyn mdem ly ayth am alhk yy hwa qym wamrth
She said, “As Yahweh your God lives, I don’t have anything baked, but only a handful of meal in a jar and a little oil in a jar. Behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”

ואמר לה אליהו לא תדחלין עולי עבידי כפתגמיכי ברם עבידי לי מתמן חררא זעירא בקדמיתא ותפקין לי וליך ולבריך תעבדין בבתריתא:
bbthrytha thebdyn wlbryk wlyk ly wthpqyn bqdmytha zeyra khrra mthmn ly ebydy brm kpthgmyky ebydy ewly thdkhlyn la alyhw lh wamr
Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go and do as you have said; but make me a little cake from it first, and bring it out to me, and afterward make some for you and for your son.

ארי כדנן אמר יי אלהא דישראל מנא דקמחא לא יגמר וצלוחיתא דמשחא לא יחסר עד יומא דיתן יי מטרא על אפי ארעא:
area apy el mTra yy dythn ywma ed ykhsr la dmshkha wtslwkhytha ygmr la dqmkha mna dyshral alha yy amr kdnn ary
For Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘The jar of meal will not run out, and the jar of oil will not fail, until the day that Yahweh sends rain on the earth.’”

ואזלת ועבדת כפתגמא דאליהו ואכלת היא והוא ואנש ביתא יומין:
ywmyn bytha wansh whwa hya waklth dalyhw kpthgma webdth wazlth
She went and did according to the saying of Elijah; and she, he, and her household ate many days.
16
מנא דקמחא לא גמר וצלוחיתא דמשחא לא חסר כפתגמא דיי דמליל בידא דאליהו:
dalyhw byda dmlyl dyy kpthgma khsr la dmshkha wtslwkhytha gmr la dqmkha mna
The jar of meal didn’t run out and the jar of oil didn’t fail, according to Yahweh’s word, which he spoke by Elijah.

והוה בתר פתגמיא האלין אתמרע בר אתתא מרת ביתא והוה מרעיה תקיף לחדא עד דלא אשתארת ביה נשמתא:
nshmtha byh ashtharth dla ed lkhda thqyp mreyh whwh bytha mrth aththa br athmre halyn pthgmya bthr whwh
After these things, the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, became sick; and his sickness was so severe that there was no breath left in him.

ואמרת לאליהו מה לי ולך נביא דיי אתיתא לותי לאדכרא ית חובי ולמקטל ית ברי:
bry yth wlmqTl khwby yth ladkra lwthy athytha dyy nbya wlk ly mh lalyhw wamrth
She said to Elijah, “What have I to do with you, you man of God? You have come to me to bring my sin to memory, and to kill my son!”

ואמר לה הבי לי ית בריך ונסביה מחינה ואסקיה לעליתא דהוא יתב תמן ואשכביה על ערסיה:
ersyh el washkbyh thmn ythb dhwa lelytha wasqyh mkhynh wnsbyh bryk yth ly hby lh wamr
He said to her, “Give me your son.” He took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into the room where he stayed, and laid him on his own bed.

וצלי קדם יי ואמר יי אלהי ברם על ארמלתא די אנא דר עמה לא יתבאש לה ולא ימות ברה:
brh ymwth wla lh ythbash la emh dr ana dy armltha el brm alhy yy wamr yy qdm wtsly
He cried to Yahweh and said, “Yahweh my God, have you also brought evil on the widow with whom I am staying, by killing her son?”

ואתמקק על רביא תלת זמנין וצלי קדם יי ואמר יי אלהי תתוב כען נפשא דרביא הדין למעוהי:
lmewhy hdyn drbya npsha ken ththwb alhy yy wamr yy qdm wtsly zmnyn thlth rbya el wathmqq
He stretched himself on the child three times, and cried to Yahweh and said, “Yahweh my God, please let this child’s soul come into him again.”

וקביל יי צלותא דאליהו ותבת נפשא דרביא למעוהי וחיא:
wkhya lmewhy drbya npsha wthbth dalyhw tslwtha yy wqbyl
Yahweh listened to the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23
ונסיב אליהו ית רביא ואחתיה מן עליתא לביתא ויהביה לאמיה ואמר לה אליהו חזי חיא בריך:
bryk khya khzy alyhw lh wamr lamyh wyhbyh lbytha elytha mn wakhthyh rbya yth alyhw wnsyb
Elijah took the child and brought him down out of the room into the house, and delivered him to his mother; and Elijah said, “Behold, your son lives.”
